Viewers and screens
Give each person at home their own favorites and history, decide what each can watch, and set up each screen from your account page.
Viewers
On your account page, under Viewers, add a name for each person. Each viewer has their own favorites, hidden channels, sort order and recently watched, kept in step across screens.
Who's watching?
Viewers apply on the screens you choose: Screens, Manage, tick Ask who is watching when the app opens. That screen then asks who's there when the app starts, when someone comes back to it, and after a few hours without a button press. Other screens keep one shared set of favorites.
To switch person, choose your name in the menu (or Watching: name on a phone).
PINs
In a viewer's Manage, Set a PIN (4 to 8 digits). The screen asks for it when someone picks that viewer. The PIN is scrambled in your browser before it's saved, so nobody, ChannelSplice included, can read it back. A forgotten PIN can be removed and set again.
What each person can watch
In a viewer's Manage, What they can watch lists your playlists:
- Untick a playlist to leave it out for that person.
- Choose groups to pick which of its groups they see (live groups, and movie and series categories).
- Jellyfin: untick it, or give the person their own Jellyfin user. They then see that user's libraries, with Jellyfin's own parental ratings and their own watched list.
Limits apply on screens that ask Who's watching?. Give your other viewers a PIN, so a limited viewer can't simply switch to someone else. Groups you left out for a whole playlist stay out for everyone.
Limits per viewer need ChannelSplice Player 0.9.0 or later, and for now apply to playlists kept on your account page (not yet with a ChannelSplice Server).
Screen settings
Everything about one screen is under Screens, Manage:
- Name. Shown on the screen and in your account.
- Who's watching? See above.
- Playlists it gets. Which of your playlists go to this screen.
- How it starts. Which playlist it opens on, the guide layout (list or timeline) and the clock. "Screen decides" leaves it to whoever uses the screen.
- Settings PIN. Asked on the screen before anyone changes its setup: unpairing, switching account, managing playlists. It doesn't stop anyone watching.
- Remove from your account. The screen goes back to showing a pairing code and frees its place on your plan.
With a ChannelSplice Server, the panel holds the screen's profiles and groups instead; see ChannelSplice Server.
