Add your channels
Your channels come from one of two places, chosen at the top of your account page: Playlists I add here, or a ChannelSplice Server. This page covers the first.
Your passphrase
The first time, the Playlists card asks you to choose a passphrase. Your playlist links and logins are encrypted in your browser with it before they're saved, so ChannelSplice can't read them.
- It's separate from your sign-in password.
- It can't be recovered. If you forget it, choose Forgot it? Start over and add your playlists again. Screens keep what they have until then.
- Remember it on this browser saves typing it each visit. On a shared computer, use Lock on this browser when you're done.
Kinds of playlist
Choose Add a playlist, give it a name, and pick its type:
Playlist link (M3U)
The address of an M3U playlist (https://…/playlist.m3u), and optionally of its guide (XMLTV, .xml or .xml.gz). Without a guide address, the one named inside the playlist is used.
Provider login
Your provider's server address, username and password (often called an Xtream Codes login). This brings the guide and the provider's Movies and Series with posters and details.
Have a long link with username= and password= in it? Paste it into the playlist address and it's split into a provider login for you.
HDHomeRun tuner
Antenna or cable channels from an HDHomeRun on your home network, with SiliconDust's free guide.
- Leave the address blank: screens on the same network find the tuner by themselves. Enter its address (like
192.168.1.50) only if they don't. - Channels: Only my favorites keeps just the channels you starred in the HDHomeRun app.
- Channels that need a cable card's permission are left out; they can't be played outside SiliconDust's own app.
- Sub-channels keep their numbers (5.1, 5.2), and typing 5 on the remote finds 5.1.
- Each screen watching uses one of the tuner's tuners.
Jellyfin server
Your own movies and shows from your Jellyfin server, under Movies and Series on the screens.
- Enter the server address (like
http://192.168.1.20:8096), a Jellyfin username and its password. - Screens sign in to your server directly and play from it; nothing passes through ChannelSplice.
- It joins the channels from a playlist or HDHomeRun, so a screen needs one of those too.
- The Jellyfin user decides which libraries appear. Each viewer can use their own Jellyfin user instead: see What each person can watch.
- One Jellyfin server per account.
Which screens get which playlists
A new playlist goes to every screen. To choose, open Screens, Manage on a screen, and tick the playlists under Playlists it gets. Changes reach the screen within a few minutes, or straight away with Sync now on the screen.
Choosing groups
Playlists often hold far more than you watch. Groups on a playlist lists its groups of live channels, and its movie and series categories; untick the ones to leave out, then Save groups.
- The groups appear a minute or two after a screen with the current app has loaded the playlist. You can also Read groups from a file: the playlist file is opened in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
- A group that appears later is shown until you untick it.
- Leaving out movie and series categories you never use keeps Movies and Series quick.
Groups left out here are left out on every screen and for everyone. To limit one person, use viewer limits.
Adding playlists on the screen instead
A paired screen with nothing sent to it can keep its own playlists: Settings, Setup and pairing, Manage playlists. They stay on that screen only.
